An Invitation to Enter Easter

Updated: Apr 24

We know the Easter story.

We know the cross, the crowd, the empty tomb. And because we know it so well, it's easy to move through this season without letting it fully move us. What if familiarity is the very thing that's keeping us from experiencing it more deeply?

Our tendency is often to go wide, to read the whole story, hit the highlights, and keep moving. But there are so many layers within these moments. So many encounters we pass by too quickly. And even taking just one piece of the story and slowing down long enough to step inside it, to feel it, to notice what's happening beneath the surface, can be deeply profound.

Because when we do, we begin to realize something unexpected.

We are more like the people in these stories than we might have thought. Their questions, their struggles, their reactions… start to feel familiar. And instead of simply observing what happened back then, we begin to see how it can still shape us today, inviting us to become more like Jesus in how we think, respond, and live.

My curiosity has been sparked by one particular person who is often overlooked and possibly misunderstood. Someone who is quite literally saved by Jesus on His way to the cross. Imagining myself in this person's place has gifted me with fresh perspectives and heightened appreciation of the Easter story, and I'm so excited to share this experience with you.

Reflections

  1. Before stepping into the Easter Story Series, pause a moment and simply reflect on what you already know about this story. What scenes, people, and images come to the surface?

  2. What emotions stir in you when you consider the Easter story? Is there anything in you that resists connecting with it more deeply?
